Overview comments :- Currently, you can no longer buy a new USA PRS Mira – Be it the more budget minded S2 model, or the original USA Core series model – In PRS terms, the Mira is about as simple as it gets, certainly with regards to the posh maple tops, that are part and parcel of so many other PRS models – Yet that doesn’t mean the Mira is a budget spec/built model – The original USA Core Series Mira, was built by the same team that built all those nice Custom 22/24 plus McCarty models etc that we are so use to seeing on a regular basis  – The Mira utilised the same tuners, hardware, pick-ups, and was built with the same loving care, plus attention to detail etc – Effectively think of it as how the Gibson SG Standard compares and stacks up against the LP Standard and Custom – In fact the PRS Mira shares many common aspects with the SG Standard, in particular as to how it performs and sounds – It is an under rated model in my opinion, and this reflects in current asking prices, especially when you look at the build quality and attention to detail – In my opinion they are at least £300-500 under priced

Looking through my stock records I was surprised to see how few used PRS Mira Guitars I have taken back into stock over the last 15 years, or so – So on that basis I am more than happy to be able to present to you a used 2008 PRS Mira, with a set of moon inlays and decked out in a simple translucent vintage mahogany finish – Condition wise it is fair to say this Mira has been played, so it is not in that as new, mint condition – Yet neither is it abused – So maybe one that is for the player, who can own and play it, without having to give it the kids glove treatment – No fret wear – You’ll find a knick on the headstock, on the Top E side – A couple of light compression marks on the rim of the body, probably from not using a good guitar stand – Plus a couple of compression marks + nick on the belly – Nothing nasty but enough to discourage potential buyers looking for a case queen – Re-strung with a set of 10-46 gauge strings and set up with a nice easy action that responds to a light touch – Includes the deluxe PRS oblong case – No factory tag, but the mod cat bar code/label can be found in the pick up cavity if required  – Why not click here and read a good review, courtesy of Guitarist Magazine and Dave Burrluck

The blue print for the Mira (pronounced My-ra not mirror) was to deliver the legendary PRS impeccable build quality, tonal variation, plus of course that fluid playing performance, in a no frills cosmetic package – I dare say that both PRS and Gibson would not thank me for pointing this out, but essentially the influence for the Mira has come from the Gibson SG Standard, so that should at least give you a vibe about the tonal qualities that it can deliver  – Both the one piece contoured mahogany body and neck, along with the headstock facia, are finished with a lightly stained vintage mahogany gloss finish, with the whole guitar coming in at a remarkable 6lbs and 15oz – So light and resonant – A set of 24 medium jumbo frets are polished, correctly profiled then impeccably fitted to a dark rosewood fingerboard  – The neck has the popular standard/regular profile, as found on many Custom 24 models, so nice and easy to handle – Measures .860″ around the top nut end and gently fattens out to .927″ around the 12th fret – Regular PRS 10″ fingerboard radius + 25″ scale length  – A few minutes of playing the Mira will ensure that you are playing a guitar with an extremely comfortable feel about it – Great for bashing out some chords and riffs, simple melodic phrases, or if you are so inclined, to churn out some flashy speedy licks – It might have a simplistic vibe and manner to it, but this guitar will not let you down – The hardware includes the PRS light weight milled aluminium wrapover bridge/tailpiece, ideal for those into open or drop tunings, plus a set of PRS 14:1 ratio locking tuners – Fitted with a pair of USA PRS Mira humbuckers with open coils, with all the controls mounted on a scratchplate – Pick-ups measure 8.48K neck and 9.24K bridge – Here you simply have a master volume and tone pot, 3 way selector switch with the addition of a mini toggle switch to deliver some excellent coil tap options – Note the treble bleed cap on the volume pot to retain highs/clarity as/when you roll back the volume pot – The all mahogany body/neck helps to deliver SG flavoured tones that possess tight lows, focussed mids and crisp rounded highs – Rich and warm tones emit from the neck pick-up with more of a gritty bite from the bridge pick-up – The coil tap settings are very useful and not the thin weedy tones that you find on many humbucker based guitars – They almost have a Tele vibe to them, so one little switch can supply you with so much extra tonal variation – In PRS terms it may well be a Plain Jane to look at, but it ain’t plain when it comes to the playing experience
