#6081 – Gibson Les Paul Standard – used/1999 – cherry sunburst
£2295

You can hardly say a 25 year old Les Paul is rare, yet equally you don’t come across many fine examples in guitar stores today – So let me update you with a few key details regarding this used Gibson Les Paul Standard, from 1999, with a cherry sunburst nitro gloss finish – It is used, with an 8 digit serial number, that easily allows you to pin point it as a 1999 model – It weighs 10lbs, which is not the lightest, nor indeed the heaviest LP, you’ll find, but tends to be par for the course for many LP’s from this era – Re-strung with a new set of 10/46 gauge strings, then set up with a sensible easy action
- Other than a replacement Schaller/Made in Germany bridge, with ‘graphtech saddles, this LP Standard is all original throughout – No fret changes – No repairs – No headstock breaks etc etc
- Grover machine heads with kidney tuning buttons
- Original Gibson pick-ups with the neck measuring a paf flavoured 7.86K and the bridge somewhat hotter at 13.02K – This suggest the 490R + 498T combination, with alnico magnets – AL2 neck and AL5 bridge
- Original pots, switch and wiring loom – pots on screening plate
- One piece mahogany body with a 2 piece plain maple top
- The one piece mahogany neck has a comfortable C profile that measures .830″ around the top nut end and .986″ around the 12th fret – A touch slimmer than a 50’s neck profile – Remember in 1999 only one neck size available on the LP Standard
- Frets are fine Smooth + even grained rosewood fingerboard
- Brown deluxe Gibson case – broken security lock code ( happens on many such case locks) but otherwise all is fine with the handle and all the other latches
- Condition wise – Look on the rear of the body and you’ll see quite a bit of compression marks, from belt buckle , to the top surface of the gloss finish, with a couple of smaller patches that have worn through the finish to show the wood – There is a mark on the side/rim of the body, near the bottom strap button – Look on the top and essentially all is nice and clean – Any graze to the top is subtle, at worse – Some natural faded which has nicely mellowed the burst finish to give it some of that ‘played in’ character
How does a Les Paul sound ? – Do I really need to tell you ? Suffice to say that as you play a few laid back licks, chords, riffs and screaming lead licks, through a clean or overdriven amp setting, you quickly notice you are playing a Les Paul – It’s musical, its fat, its warm, it can scream and bark, but it can smoother you with lush qualities as well
