Not just another used PRS McCarty, but the Turbo, Gti. sports pack version - Yes this used 2000 PRS McCarty has been spec'd with a rosewood neck and fingerboard, as well as a set of gold plated hardware, of which both features add considerable cost to the basic price - I dare say you have already noticed the set of abalone bird inlays that beam from the 22 fret rosewood fingerboard, as well as that lush tortoiseshell finish, that sits on a flamed maple top that is loaded with lots of curl, swirls and character - For a 12 year old guitar the condition does not reflect its age as playing wear is on the light side - So nothing nasty or untoward, just light grazes and blemishes to the top surface of the shiny gloss finish - No fret wear and only light wear to the gold hardware - Offered for sale, complete with the deluxe PRS hard shell case, tags and a new set of 10's, along with a check-up/set-up - By the way, it checks in a touch under 8lbs and has a nice natural resonance about it

If I was to say the PRS McCarty Rosewood is a 'poor man's' Modern Eagle, it is meant to be a back handed compliment, yet the Modern Eagle was designed and based upon the McCarty chasis, so in many ways, take away the luxurious appointments that you find on a Modern Eagle and you can see where I'm coming from - The tortoiseshell finished maple top sits on a one piece mahogany body, yet you can still see the 'natural' edged maple binding, which is a PRS trade mark, now copied by so many - The McCarty model pays homage to the great man behind many of Gibson's finest guitars from the late 50's period and as such it is very much a traditional instrument - Vintage style Kluson tuners sit on the rosewood headstock whilst at the other end the strings are fitted to the PRS designed wrapover bridge/tailpiece - Whilst this looks like a simple bridge, it is engineered and designed to perfection - It is a solid/milled aluminium block that is mounted on to a pair of chunky brass studs, to optimise tone, sustain and harmonics - Still based on the early Gibson design, but now fine tuned to provide precise intonation and improved transmission of the string vibration through to the body, hence improved sustain - Fitted with a set of 9's, 10's or 11's with a plain 3rd string, you will have no intonation issues whatsoever

The McCarty Tone - A pair of PRS McCarty humbuckers sit at the heart of the tone department - Fitted with alnico magnets, plus voiced and wound to deliver vintage flavoured tones - The bridge pick-up is wound a little hotter to give a touch more edge and bite that is so vital for lead work and clean crunch rhythm playing - A push/pull coil tap option can be found on the tone pot - This works on both pick-ups to give you access to some very useful single coil flavoured tones - Whilst they are not pure 60's Strat territory, they are still very handy for those funky chops, as and when you need them - However, to me and hopefully to many others, what puts this McCarty high upon another pedestal is the solid rosewood neck and fingerboard - Not only does it feel so smooth and silky, it also has that played in feel about it, due to it not requiring any lacquer on it - But this is just the start, as the neck contributes so much to the tone of the guitar - To say the overall tone is full, rich and warm should give you some idea of what to expect when you get round to introducing this guitar to your amp - With clear lows, silky smooth highs and fat mids that possess excellent articulation, so as not to go all mushy on you, this guitar is loaded with soul, expression and emotion - It is certainly influenced by the tones of a good Lester Paul, so for blues to classic rock territory you know you are going to be on a winning wicket - From sultry blues tones on the neck pick-up, to scorching lead tones on the bridge pick-up, the McCarty does not leave you wanting or needing more, only to play it more and more - Add the fluid playing action that a PRS delivers so well and from a playing performance point of view, there is very little to dislike about this guitar
