Used JJ Special - vintage cherry
#3575 - £550

This JJ Jewel is definitely somewhat of an un-sung hero - Whilst these hand built guitars from the UK don't possess the quality of a PRS Guitar, they are nevertheless streets ahead of the mass produced guitars coming out of China/Korea that you find in the £400-600 price range - Furthermore they are far superior to the cheaper satin finished Gibbo's that are around today for under a grand - In short, for a used guitar that will still give you change when you spend £600, you are buying a seriously good guitar that is more than capable of holding its own in a gigging enviroment - For a customer looking at buying an affordable run around or indeed a junior guitarist looking to move up through the ranks from their entry based copy, then this JJ Jewel warrants serious consideration :- After all, in this price range, who else offers South American mahogany for the body and neck plus an Indian rosewood fingerboard ? - Add to that a milled, not monkey metal, light weight aluminium wrap over bridge/tailpiece, mounted on a pair of chunky brass post and Sperzel non locking tuners, along with a graphite top nut and the spec is looking impressive
The P90 pick-up bridge position is a custom spec'd hand wired British pick-up, possibly a Bulldog, whilst the P90 in the neck position is the standard JJ model - In many ways the guitar has Les Paul Special tendencies regarding both its look and tonal qualities - The two pick-ups possess a more lively tonal vibe than regular humbuckers with more bite, articulation and transparency yet with plenty of body - Smooth and warm enough from the neck to allow you to drop into chilled out jazz/blues, yet enough bite from the bridge to let you move into a Green Day or George Thorogood style of playing - Condition wise, the guitar has a minor ding near the edge of the body, otherwise we are talking about a few minimal grazes to the top surface of the vintage cherry finish - Great playing action and set-up with a set of 10's for a slinky feel - The neck shape fits somewhere between a nice Tele, albeit with a touch more meat on it, or a slim Les Paul neck, either way it is eminently playable
