Overview - The PRS Modern Eagle has always represented the pinnacle of Paul's designs, ideas and commitment to producing a guitar that is both a pleasure to own, but more importantly, it is the ultimate tool for any guitar player with regard to the playing performance and tonal qualitiy - The finest tonewoods, pick-ups, hardware and craftsmanship are blended together to deliver a guitar that possesses all the key criteria that can only be an inspiration to your playing

We hand picked this Modern Eagle Quatro, initially by virtue of that seductive flamed maple top, but also the way it feels and plays - Decked out in lush faded blue burst finish it sure looks cool

Feel/Playability - If you have read the Guitarist magazine review, via our above link, there is probably not a lot more I can add - However let me touch on a few key points One is the feel and playability of the neck - As an overview a thick neck delivers a thick tone, whilst a thin neck delivers a thin tone, so the goal for many guitar builders is to optimise the depth and feel of the neck, to enhance the tone and sustain, yet not to inhibit your playing - To that extent PRS spend many hours building a neck that allows you to optimise your playing performance - It sits a touch slimmer than many Les Paul guitars, yet with a touch more 'girth' than is found on a Strat - Bottom line is that it is very comfortable, with a fluid playing action that allows for controlled and effortless string bending - So much so that a set of 10's feel like you are handling a set of 9's

My next comment is with regard to the tone - Played through various amp settings from clean, to subtle rock/blues overdrive and on to hi-gain overdrive, the Modern Eagle Quatro is loaded with soul and emotion - Incredible dynamics, a quick attack and very responsive - The texture you can obtain from each note allows you to savour every ounce of your playing - On clean amp settings, you'll find the PRS 53/10 neck pick-up delivers a rich, smooth and warm tone with excellent articulation, very much a quality that can be found on a nice 335, hence full clear rounded lows and shimmering highs - The bridge pick-up delivers the bite and snarl of a good Nocaster, yet with plenty of body, punch plus clear lows and crisp highs, with no harsh shrill like qualities - There is enough mids to add punch and body, but not to the point where they over power the tone and go all mushy on you - Add some overdrive and the taper and qualities allow you to run the guitar at 10, but roll off the pots to obtain a softer voicing, hence so much more control, soul and emotion is available to you, at your fingertips - It can purrrrrrr, or snarl and bite as required - Play a chord an even on hi-gain amp settings each string has excellent separation, so it does not go all 'mushy' on you - What about sustain - You are more likely to get bored waiting for the note to stop as it is available in abundance and just sinnnnnnnnnngs - On many humbucker based guitars, the 'tapped' single coil voices, at best, offer a token gesture of a single coil tone - The PRS Modern Eagle offers the best single coil tone you'll get from a humbucker based guitar - In fact many budget Strats, will not sound as good as the 'tapped' Modern Eagle voices - Attempt Dave Gilmour or Little Wing licks and you'll be pleasantly surprised - Hence additional tonal qualities to enrich your palette

To further enhance the tone, PRS utilise a milled light weight aluminium wrapover bridge/tailpiece, that is mounted on a pair of substantial brass posts, so as to optimise the transmission of the strings into the body, hence improved sustain and plenty of rich harmonics - I know a test drive is the ultimate way to experience the qualities that a Modern Eagle can offer, but check it out at your own peril
