PRS McCarty 57/08 Limited Edition - Charcoal burst - sold
#4049 - £2,899
It is hard to believe it is now 4 years ago that I spent a few days at the PRS factory to attend the PRS Experience Event and to witness the release of the highly spec'd 57/08 Limited Edition models
Going back to the autumn of 2008, the original price was over £3500 - PRS UK may well have ordered to many, but the end result was that in 2009 I purchased the last 14 or so models and as such managed to arrive at a more attractive price of £2899 - Moving on to 2012 and PRS UK have just found a further 4 new old stock models in the warehouse, so once again we have purchased them all, so how about £2899 this time - 1 Custom 24 and 3 McCarty models - All guitars are new, but have been on display and as such you may find a minor blemish or two if you wish to hunt carefully along that shiny gloss lacquer - Re-strung, cleaned up and set-up, so no issues on that score and of course complete with full warranty - Just look at the spec, features and details of the signed 57/08 Limited Edition models, then compare it to other PRS McCarty and Custom 24 models that you can currently buy for a similar price - In fact I have seen used 57/08 models for sale at the same price that we are now asking for the remaing 4 guitars - All in all an excellent package and lets not forget about the feel, playability and tone
Here is what we had to say about them in 2008
The PRS Limited Edition 57/08 guitars are a unique run of special instruments - Consisting of 3 models -Custom 24 - Singlecut SC245 - McCarty - Only 750 57/08 Limited Edition guitars are to be made available worldwide - 350 x Custom 24 models - 250 x SC245 models - 150 x McCarty models - Each guitar is hand signed and numbered by Paul Reed Smith on the rear of the control cavity plate - Each guitar is equipped with only the finest tone woods coupled with the most exciting, talked about pickups since the PAF! - An attractive 'artist pack' graded quilted maple 10 top is a feature on each of the 57/08 Limited Edition guitars along with a lightweight South American mahogany body, a Peruvian mahogany neck, Dalbergia rosewood fretboard, Paua rim "J" bird inlays and the new PRS 57/08 pickups with original wire from the 50's - An engraved 57/08 truss rod cover completes the package.
PRS obtained exclusive rights to the original pickup wire that was used in the most revered pickups from the '50s - Paul Reed Smith obtained the rights to the wire in 2008 and with 1957 being the year the humbucker was first commercially available, hence the name 57/08 - These are truly amazing, warm toneful pickups that are loaded with emotional qualities and tremendous articulation, that must be heard to be believed. They will cover the tonal spectrum of vintage and modern tones with authority!
The SC245, Custom 24 and McCarty models are fitted with nickel hardware.
The SC245 and McCarty models are fitted with a set of non-locking vintage style 'Kluson' tuners, along with a milled lightweight aluminium wrap over bridge/tailpiece - Both models have the wide/fat neck profile and 22 frets.
The Custom 24 is fitted with the PRS 14:1 ratio locking tuners and the PRS modern fulcrum tremolo system, incorporating a solid brass trem block, with nickel plated solid brass saddles - All Custom 24 models have the wide/thin profile.
