PRS Hollowbody 11 Artist Pack + piezo - black cherry - 2006
#4018 - £2,499

Days upon days of endless pleasure await any potential customer who will be seduced into buying this delectable PRS Hollowbody 11 loaded with all the Artist Pack features and a lush black cherry finish - The serial number dates the guitar as 2006 - For a few years the Artist Package option was no longer available on any PRS Guitars, but recently it has once again appeared on the price list as an optional upgrade on select models - A Hollowbody 11 with Artist Pack options would now sit at just under £5000, whilst a regular spec'd model, without the Artist Pack option, would easily add £3500 to your credit card statement, hence £2499 for a nice used example ensures this is a well priced package - We have taken into account the guitars condition to reflect our £2499 price tag - There is a nick on the rear of the body, on the bottom near the rim, but otherwise only very light playing wear and a touch of wear to the gold hardware are visible as you explore the shiny gloss finish - Frets are fine and we have allowed the guitar to visit our work bench for a new set of strings, check-up and set-up - We have chosen to set it up as per original factory spec with a set of 11's and a wound 3rd, but we can easily adjust this set-up to suit individual taste
Artist pack options include gold plated hardware, rosewood headstock facia, the exotic looking paua bird inlays and paua PRS signature logo on the headstock and finally the delectable 'artist pack' graded flamed maple top and back, in short all the cosmetic upgrades to make you go weak at the knees - The body is constructed from both a solid carved maple top and back with just a centre support block under the bridge/tailpiece, to give you a true semi acoustic instrument - The mahogany neck is topped of with a roswood fingerboard and impeccably graced with a set of the paua bird inlays, along with 22 highly polished and correctly profiled jumbo frets - Fitted with a complete set of gold plated hardware, including the PRS 14:1 ratio locking machine heads, whilst the ebony tuning buttons add a further touch of class to the overall package - The wrapover bridge/tailpiece is fitted with 6 adjustable bridge saddles, which also incorporate the LR Baggs piezo system (more on that later) - As with any PRS guitar the playing performance is outstanding with a fluid easy playing action throughout the length of the fingerboard, even with the factory set-up of 11 gauge strings
The Hollowbody Tonal Package - To any guitarist familiar with the old fashioned jazz boxes like an L5 or ES175, you'll find this guitar just a pure pleasure to play, yet to a regular guitarist brought upon a solid body instrument, the Hollowbody 11 performs and feels like any other PRS guitar - Whilst the Hollowbody 11 will have great attraction to any jazz/blues or fusion based guitarist, or indeed any virtusos style solo guitarist, it will more than hold its own for any gigging musician in a function band or top 40 covers/pub outfit and maybe somewhat surprisingly, it will deliver a great warm tone with bags of sustain in a rock overdriven situation, but granted it is not a die hard bombastic rock machine - Think Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Steely Dan to name just a few and this is the guitar at its best - With the Hollowbody 11 having both a pair of PRS McCarty Archtop humbuckers as well as the LR Baggs patented piezo system, with individual string voicing and real acoustic modelling, the tonal options are vast - You have the first option of running both the piezo and regular humbuckers down one guitar lead into your existing amp set-up - However to get the best out of the piezo system, it is suggested that you run it into a more dedicated electro acoustic amp, pa desk, recording package etc, with the humbuckers still going into your regular amp - Therefore you have two separate outputs, to allow you to take advantage of this option - I for one, would never have put the piezo option as a must have item on the top of my shopping list, but once you have played around with it, you quickly realise it has some great voicings available to you, to enrich your perfotrmance - The humbuckers produce a full bodied, smooth and warm tone with good articulation and loads of rich natural harmonics - For a blues/rock player dabbling in jazz, or a jazz player dabbling in blues/rock, this has to be an instrument worth investigating, yet for a solo virtuoso guitarist it is a must have instrument
