#3847 - £2,290

New Low price - was £2899 - Now £2890
New pics now loaded on to the web site of this rare PRS Custom 24 Killer Quilt Limited Edition - The pics still do not do justice to the fire red finish and the 'Killer Quilt' maple top - The finish is dark, mysterious, sultry and very stylish, plus far less blatant than other finishes - Certainly cut above the regular production Custom 24 models
The 2009 PRS Custom 24 Killer Quilt Limited Edition was part of a very special run with only 200 available worldwide - Furthermore only a handful have ever been allocated to the UK and I sold the majority of these - Condition wise we are talking about an exceptionally clean guitar - One very very careful owner and home use only - I'm sure if you look long and hard you may well find a hint of a blemish, but as I stated earlier, this is an exceptionally clean guitar - Includes the deluxe PRS case and tags - Re-strung and set-up with a set of 10's and of course that fluid PRS playing action
Based on the best selling Custom 24 models, the Killer Quilt is all about a rigorous and meticulous selection of the finest woods coupled with the highly sought after 57/08 humbuckers that PRS now utilise on select models - As you may have already guessed within the 'Killer Quilt' branding, the quilted maple tops are from the top draw and all hand-picked for total aesthetic beauty - The artist pack graded quilted maple top rests on a korina body, so expect a guitar that is light weight (under 8lbs), very resonant and lively with incredible sustain - The figured Peruvian mahogany neck supports a rosewood rosewood fingerboard that is meticulously installed with 24 medium jumbo frets, along with banded melon bird inlays - The headstock facia is also rosewood and again features banded melon inlays for the Paul Reed Smith Signature logo - The hardware is a hybrid of gold and nickel, whilst the PRS 57/08 humbuckers feature gold satin finished covers - The guitar looks mighty seductive with the fire red finish, yet the pics do not do full justice to the guitar, it looks far more classy when viewed in the flesh
Feel/Playability - Of course PRS guitars are not just about pleasing aesthetics as both the playing performance and tonal variations can more than match all of that refined beauty - The neck has the popular standard, or regular profile - This profile will be familiar territory to guitarists who have played Strat based guitars for years, yet with a PRS you have a very fluid playing action along the whole length of the 24 fret fingerboard, whilst string bending has never been so effortless - Even strung up with a set of 10's, the whole guitar has a nice slinky yet positive feel about the way it plays - With the help of the 14:1 ratio locking tuners and the PRS modern fulcrum tremelo system you have a package that will provide trouble free tuning for all but the most excessive amount of use - Furthermore it has a very responsive and positive feel about it - The bridge saddles are machined from solid brass, as is the tremelo block, so as to enhance your tone with increased sustain and harmonics
Tone Heaven - Now add a pair of PRS 57/08 humbuckers and you enter 'tonal heaven' - As you enter the extreme levels of hi-gain on your amp set-up that is required for shredding, the guitar will be more than happy with its admirable performance, but in truth the 57/08 pick-ups reveal their true tonal qualities when performing with clean, subtle blues or classic rock amp settings - The neck pick-up possesses all the qualities that can inspire you to better things within a clean jazz/blues or fusion enviroment, with an abundance of smooth, warm, rich and creamy tones coupled with incredible articulation - Add some overdrive and you quickly find that magical sweet spot were this guitar simply purrrs with pleasure - Marry that to the bridge pick-up so you can now listen to chilled out blues licks or bone crushing rock licks that are ablaze with expressive tonal qualities - Yes that bridge pick-up has a throaty bark and plenty of bite yet is so musical rich with incredible shimmering harmonics that works so well on clean or overdriven amp settings - Both the volume and tone pot work smoothly over the 1-10 range and as such they allow you to set-up the amp with some overdrive, then 'roll off' the pots a touch to control your tonal requirements - Hence so much more tonal expression and emotion available to you, directly at your finger tips - As you 'roll off' the volume pot, the tone will not go all weak and/or mushy on you, as it retains its tonal quality and now offers you a cleaner overdriven tone, or even a chilled out blues/jazz tone, as required
Not only will a 'Killer Quilt' model become highly collectable with a good long term return on your investment, it is also an instrument that can undeniably be an inspiration to your playing
