Gibson Les Paul Gary Moore - lemon drop - 2000
#4024 - £1,830

I'm sure no introduction is required as to Mr Moore's guitar playing ability, so what can we tell you about the original Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul Signature model that dates back to 2000 - Released as a limited edition model at the turn of the century, it was never intended to be a DNA replica of his and Peter Green's '59 burst' model - His wish was for a versatile, yet striking guitar that was far more affordable than the Historic Collection models
The flavour of this model is firmly camped into that of a regular Les Paul Standard, albeit with a few cosmetic tweaks - No binding to the fingerboard or body - The 22 fret rosewood fingerboard has pearl trapezoid inlays, whilst the mahogany body is topped of with a carved AA flamed top, in a nitro cellulose 'lemon burst' finish - Great curly flamed maple top that is loaded with character yet does not look to 'pretty' - No weight relief, so a solid mahogany body that weighs well into the 8lb region, but I have seen some GM models that weigh far more (remember it is a myth that most/all 58/59 models are light weight as they aren't and that is part of the tone) - If you like a neck with a bit of meat to it, then this will not disappoint you, although it is not as chunky as the 58/59 Historic Collection models - Re-strung and set-up with a set of 10's and a sensible playing action - Fitted with regular Gibson nickel hardware and a set of 'Kluson' machine heads with pearl/tulip buttons
Tone wise the guitar is fitted with a pair of the original vintage flavoured Burst-Buckers with a zebra bobbins in the neck position - I somehow recall that the Burstbuckers where originally released or designed for the GM model and some distance memory tells me Tom Holmes had a hand in their design - Measured at 7.3k, so more vintage based as against mdern hi-gain levels - No, the guitar does not have that Need Your Love 'out of phase' tone with the switch in the middle position, hence regular LP wiring - Condition wise we are looking at light playing wear only - the top is almost totally clean, whilst on the rear any dings are light and only to the top surface - No fret issues and only light tarnish to the hardware - Today Gibson would probably sell it as a new VOS model - Only the most pernickety of customers would grumble at the condition - For a 12 year old guitar it is clean
Offered for sale complete with the original Gibson case, the signed silk cover and a signed scratch plate - I'd like to own the guitar, but given the choice I'd rather the great man was still here, recording more great music - Much missed
