This Strat struggles to hit 8lbs on our scales which helps to give the guitar a nice lively natural vibe and sustain - Furthermore, with it having a swamp ash body it just ringsssssss - Plug it in and it just gets better from here onwards - The 3 different Custom Shop pick-ups gives the guitar a nice well balanced response and tonal range across all 5 switch settings - The softer voicing of the '69' Strat pick-up in the neck ensures plenty of smooth warmth coupled with that classic snap and attack - Clear lows and sparkling highs - Not many players use the middle pick-up on its own, but the Fat 50's ensures excellent 'out of phase' tones on position 2 and 4 of the switch - Plenty of depth and of course all the classic quack that makes these 'out of phase' voices so desirable - The Texas Special in the bridge position is slightly hotter, so it will give you extra bite as and when required - It has plenty of body and bite, but not that nasty shrill like tone that some Strats deliver - All 3 controls work well across the whole 1-10 range, so will respond nicely to the soul and emotion that you require from each pick-up - Play it with everything on '10' or roll of the pots slightly for a darker or softer voicing - This will also enable you to clean up an overdriven amp setting, hence you are in total control of the emotion that you require
As with most modern Custom Shop Strats, the guitar retains all its vintage character and vibe, but the 9.5" fingerboard radius and 6105 medium jumbo frets sure makes these Strats easier to play - A more fluid action and no choking out when you rip into those big blues bends - As far as the relic finish is concerned, this Candy Green Strat is certainly on the lighter side of looking 'worn' - It has plenty of character to it, with plenty of nice lacquer checking along with few grazes and dints, but nothing excessive - The tinted lacquer neck almost has no hints of wear and tear - So it has the aged vibe without looking as though it has just finished its 10th world tour - All in all a great Strat that delivers the goods in all areas - Tone, playability and looks
